Thanks again for all the kind words.

I especially appreciate this comment. This sums up my biggest challenge with this and the Craftsman guitar. We've sent hundreds of images back and forth, all of which could work in the design. Paring it down to a few elements that create a consistent feel and make sense together has been equally agonizing and rewarding. We had to cull a lot of good ideas but I guess it just leaves more things to play with in the future....

The end graft is in and the headplate is done. The end graph pattern will repeat at the 12th fret on the fingerboard and the truss rod cover will integrate into the headplate design.

Thanks for looking!

Default Fingerboard

To work together with the DeRhodes house glass screen pattern in the headplate veneer, Kent created a geometric pattern of inlays of bloodwood/maple rhombi markers with the same glyph found in the end graft spanning the 12th to 15th frets. A thin mahogany line frames the fingerboard to match the head-plate veneer, end graft, back-strip and body binding. It will be interesting to see the elements assembled. The installation of the EVO Gold frets will change how the markers are perceived and the drilling of tuner holes will create an interesting juxtaposition of visual tension intersecting with the tulips in the head-plate veneer.

Kudos KC

Default Weekend Update (not SNL)

Kent got a back strap veneer glued on the peg-head today. I haven't seen it, but I assume that it's ebony (tbd). He also informed me that he glued the fingerboard to the neck. It sounds as if it will be ready for finishing this week! I can't wait to see photos of it all together.

Sorry, no pictures...

Default Long day in Bothell

I awoke this morning to some nice photos of an assembled No. 100 in my mailbox.

Kent's FLW vision can now begin to be viewed in an integrated view.

The ebony backstrap ties together well with other ebony elements throughout the guitar.

The inverted light maple line work on the ebony and the ebony line work on the spruce integrate well visually.

While we have seen some nice brown wood on this site lately, this stuff holds up pretty well don't ya think?

I think that it is time to begin to spray on some sealer and finish and get back to finishing No. 99.

Kudos Ken

P.S.

Pretty clean shop for such a long day!

Default Some better photos in the day light...

Kent sent some photos in the oh-so-rare Washington State sunshine.

Here is a close up of the headplate veneer. The beautiful flamed grain of the Santos Mahogany can be seen along with the truss rod cover which is integrated into the DeRhodes house tulip design.

You can see the truss rod cover screw hole in the ebony backstrap.

Brownwood in the sunshine...

While this instrument (No. 100) is being finished over the next month, Kent will turn his attention back to finishing up No. 99.

Default Finishing...

Kent forwarded me some shots mid-process from the spray both. You can see the contrast in the woods increase, textures and hues begin to show.

What a treat to watch that unfold.
I'm most fond of the back strip, and particularly how it developed from page 2 to page 3. The small corner blocks that finish the two panels (?) staves (?) (whatever you called them) really make the design.
Very satisfying work Kent, congratulations!

Steve
