HI JD,
I have read that the Loar Lo-16 is a very nice blues guitar. I hope you like it. Very cool! - Glenn |

Congratulations J.D.
I'll be interested to hear how it compares to the RP-06 you traded for it.

NLD-(new Loar day)
I like the Loar because the 00 size is just right for me and it's a 14 fret. Sounds amazin' with EJ 17's and the great set-up I got. Tone-wise and volume wise it steps above the RP-06 without adding much in the bout sizes.

How would you compare the sound to your RNJ-17?

Dave...with like strings and playing the same style the Loar has higher trebles and "woodier" mids. The RK is louder strummed, but not by much. The Loar is a touch smaller and the depth is not as much as the RK. The Rk has a bit more bass. The neat thing is I dropped nickel flatwound 11/50's on the RK and my knarled fingers slide on those strings. The sound is like a 1930's Gibson. So as of now, the Loar with EJ 17's is fuller and brighter, while the RK with nickel flatwounds is "boxier" more authentic blues sound. Both are great dollar values in this competitive market, ie. Martin, H&D, SC, etc.

I think the EJ16s sound great on my Eastman, too. How's the action on the Loar? Did you have it adjusted by your tech?
Congrats on the new guitar! You & 'it' look good together. |

yup, had frets leveled and polished, nut filed for the bass "E", neck relief, intonation checked, 1st class set-up. Next one Carol is the E*OM for Xmas! J.D.

Well chosen, sir. It has that classic Gibson L 00 look.

The E series is an excellent choice! I am really looking forward to hearing about it, too. Enjoy your Loar, in the meantime. |
