The overall look is quite traditional as you say. But Bruce added a number of elements to the venerable single 0 concept.

Cool! I love the Coco sapwood appointments all around. Having played only a few of Bruce's guitars, I'm sure this one sings as well. Too bad it won't make it to Santa Barbara.

The Pear 0, if it doesn't sell at Vancouver, will be at Santa Barbara for the second time. This guitar is unique, beautiful, and sounds fantastic to me. It is literally half the price of Bob's and it is hard for me to understand why I still own it! Maybe I missed something about it, and if anyone knows what that is, I'm all ears.

I thought it only fitting to finish this build thread with an image of the guitar and its maker taken at the Woodstock Invitational Luthiers Showcase 2017 last week. Those of you who got a chance to audition this guitar, now understand just how good it truly is. I honestly could not be happier. As usual, Bruce has exceeded my expectations...

I was able to play this instrument before the show opened--Saturday morning--and can verify it has a sound all out of proportion to its diminutive size.
Very impressive! Steve |

I played a lot of guitars at the show, by no means everyone's, and thought most have a very different sort of tone than mine generally, and this one in particular. The common sound is to my ear very mid-range warm, it is beautiful, but not what I hope for. I am after greater clarity, a good fundamental and a complete overtone sequence (one can hope!) and enough mid-range to sound pretty and complete, but not so much as to gum up the clarity. Bob's single 0 is a stellar example of my work, but it is not atypical in its tone, response, or balance, "merely" an overachiever. Sometimes I squirm in thinking I am the odd man out and will be left behind as the future unfolds, but the general reviews I got from this show, and Bob's guitar in particular, give me more faith. Thank you to all who have been so kind. |
