Adding Ivoroid After The Fact
I've got a Santa Cruz H that has Ivoroid binding on the body, neck and around
the soundhole but unfortunately not around the headstock. The headstock is Cocobola over the Mahogany and the finished edge is a very hard, sharp angle. I've already nicked the edge up pretty badly while changing strings. I'm wondering is it would be possible and reasonably feasible to add Ivoroid binding on a finished guitar. Thanks |

Sure, anything is possible, for a price. DIY something like that without the prerequisite skills could be very bad. If someone came to me with such a modification request I'd try really hard to convince them not to worry about it.

If you want to add binding to anything on a finished guitar, the headstock is about the easiest. You'd have to refinish, or at least overspray the headstock, but I think a good builder/repairman could pull it off. Emphasis on good.
The cost of the material is inconsequential. You'd be paying for time and skill. I'd expect $250-500. Just a guess. |
