Default Pickguard for Rainsong Shorty FT

Any suggestions for adding a pick guard to the fine texture finish to minimize the scratchy noise? Where to buy, best size, etc.
Thanks!

Hi Penny,

Michael of Mac Nichol guitars used to sell a carbon pickguard for the Rainsong, but any pickguard made for a 4" sound hole will work.

Here's a cheap, removeable option that will be almost invisible:

These guys: http://www.alloy-carbon.com/ make carbon fiber pickguards in a number of popular shapes (Martin, Taylor, Gibson, etc.). They're pretty thin and easy to apply. I put a Taylor-shaped one on my Rainsong Concert OM. I bought it on Amazon.

Couple of caveats:

They're in Greece, so it will take a few weeks to get here. And I did have to trim the soundhole edge just a bit to get it to properly fit the rosette.

Hope this helps!

Excellent suggestion, Jon, looks like it would work perfectly for Penny.

I'm late to the discussion, but I found the static style pickguards (clear - mine were from Taylor) did not adhere (even temporarily) to the rough surface on my Rainsong OM1100. I bought a black plastic (Martin shape) pickguard from Stew-Mac, trimmed it a bit as the width from soundhole to edge of top is much less on the Rainsong, and then attached it as shown in the pic.

I did it for the same reason - to reduce some of the noise while strumming.

I find that I can still produce that scratchy noise (when I want it!) by using fingers or forearm or shirt cuff etc. on the non-pickguard area. Makes a nice rhythm backing to some songs! And I think it looks pretty good, while still subtle.

Cheers all, and best of luck Penny!

Phil

I went with the Retro Parts RP111B black stick on Martin style pick guard via Amazon. Very reasonable and easy to apply and fits great w no trimming. Happy Camper!
