Default Stolen Guitar

So I'm in Portland, Oregon. staying at a hotel. Mind you this is not a dirty old motel. It's a nice place.

Anyway, my Custom Martin 000 disappears from my room. I don't normally travel with my instrument but I've found that I itch so badly, I decided to bring it this time. And poof!

Anyway, don't know how this works so I'm just putting the word out.

Martin Custom 000 Adirondack Top Mahogany Back and Sides Serial #1815232

So sorry; scumbags will steal anything.

Hope the hotel reimburses you

So sorry for the trouble. Yes. It is imperative that you file a police report. Also notify your insurance company even if its not scheduled. If you need the serial you might call whomever you bought it from. They might have it. Don't wait if you can get it. Ask the hotel to review security footage and take explicit note with name, date and time. You need to keep a log of every contact and don't be afraid to write information down in front of them. It lets them know you're serious.

Me, too, Mr. Jelly. I have often had to leave a guitar in a hotel room while I was out for the day. I will be most interested to see how this plays out.

By way of suggestion and after reading this, if I am ever in hotel with one of my guitars, I'm leaving it with the Bell Captain to store for me when I'm not using it.
It might be a pain, but at least someone would be accountable.

1) Definitely file a police report.

2) Demand to speak to a manager. If its a national chain, argue with the highest ranking person on site, and then do the same thing on the phone.

3) Try to figure out whether there are records related to the room. Does the hotel track the keys that open the door? (Probably not, but ask.) Definitely ask for security footage. And not just of the room -- check footage for the entrances and exits. One advantage here is that a guitar is pretty big, so if they have cameras on the exits, and someone left with it, it'll get seen.

4) Is there evidence of forced entry? I expect not. That means someone entered with the key. Which means employee.

5) Has hotel security done a full search? Employee break areas, other rooms, etc? Again, its pretty big, so they should spot it quickly.

What a disaster.

Don't know if you live in the area, but I'd bet (if your guitar is not recovered) that you will see it for sale on craigslist or ebay before long. These scumbags usually aren't brain surgeons, so it won't be all that hard to find.

Good luck to you!

Almost all hotels have cctv nowadays so easy to see who went in the room and who's carrying it around.

Bummer. Get on this quick, before you leave the hotel. It's highly likely that they have cam footage of the common areas.

Definitely file a report with the local police.

Then file a claim with your home insurance. If you don't play professionally the guitar may be covered on your home insurance.
