Default Fender Player Series

Curious what others think of Fender rolling out the Player Series to replace the (MIM) Standard series. Wondering if they hope people will stop referring to them as Mexican and call them Player. I’m sure marketing is a big part of it, but they are touting several upgrades. So far, I’m reading good things. They have changed the sort of stale color selections too in some cases.

Anyone play one yet?

The buttercream Strat color is pretty nice. I may have to wait until there are some floor models available to knock the price down a tiny bit. I like my ‘03 MIM but think HSS would suit me better. In many cases that bridgE SSS pickup is not a usable tone for me.

They will still be called Mexican, much as the current Standard series - which do not have the word "Mexican" anywhere in their official name. Given that there are already "Classic Player" and "Deluxe Player" and "Modern Player" series guitars, this new designation is a bit confusing to me.

I've read some articles and watched Philip McKnight's youtube video on it. Looks like the alnico pickups (instead of the ceramic) may be something that most people will like. Also the 2 pivot screw bridge instead of the 6 screw. Some other changes as well.

Guessing it's just another marketing thing. Just like the changes to the US series as well.
