Default Back Is Braced

We’re still waiting on the shell for the rosette and Ryan is making me some custom purfling for it.

In the meantime the back received some port orford cedar braces. For all of their braces the species doesn’t matter as much as the stiffness and grain orientation. They deflect all of their brace stock and have a desired range in mind depending on the model and woods involved. For reference, the PoC tops they have used in the past year on my and others’ builds were the stiffest tops they’ve ever put on guitars. Port Orford Cedar has the added benefit of being one of the best smelling woods in the shop:

It will be a few weeks before I'm able to pick up this beauty and take her for a spin, but she's all done and a demo video should be incoming soon.

Insert the usual disclaimer regarding photographing dark tonewoods being equivalent to photographing black glass, but I feel like Ryan did an admirable job giving me an idea of how gorgeous it will be in person.

Thanks for following along.

Thank you Kevin, your kind comment is much appreciated.
I’ll go out on a Malaysian Blackwood limb here, and say I believe John will like this one. So far it shows great promise.

Default Kinnaird SJ

Congratulations John! Your new S. Kinnaird SJ is a beauty. Love the tone wood combination and Fiddleback Mahogany accents look great. Top notch work by Steve and Ryan, as usual.

Looking forward to Steve's demo video and hope to get a chance to see and hear it in person at some point.
