Default Van Morrison can play

I never saw him live, but had almost all his albums back in vinyl days. So for me, Van has been audio only.

Watched "Into the Mystic" on YouTube, Van playing an Ovation, accompanied by drummer, keys, and bass, and wow!

He is a multi-instrument player. His horn playing is off the charts and he plays harmonica like the best of them.

Van can't be replaced. He's at the top.

'Van the Man', indeed... a perfect sobriquet for a man who has given me thousands of hours of listening pleasure, ever since the early 60's with his group, Them...

Was very happy that he received the Order of Merit in the UK and was knighted... I can't think of a more fitting person in the music business to be a recipient of that honor!

Van Morrison is one of those writer/performers that I literally could not pick my "favorite" anything... not song, not album, not performance...

Of course, the guy can play!

Van Morrison is an original. I don't think there were many soulful singers coming out of Ireland back in the 60's. After years of listening to his music I realized where his vocal style comes from. He vocalizes like a saxophone. What an amazing talent! One of my favorite cd's is 'Still On Top'.

Van has been one of my favorite artists for decades. There was a time when I would listen to him pretty much non stop for months at at time....he is one of a kind.

He is a musician in his own realm. His style? Van Morrison style.

He is impressive, and that is an understatement. His melody writing is brilliant.

Not bad at songwriting either, we play a bunch of Van's songs including this one plus, These Dreams of You, And it Stoned Me, Wild Nights, Tupelo Honey, Crazy Love, and few more. Every once in awhile we'll play a Van the Man three-fer. Our favorite Irish Blues Singer.

A long time favorite. One of my favorites, Poetic Champions Compose, features his sax playing. Never thought I'd get to see him live ... then he did a 4 date "tour" in the US and we were lucky enough to see him at Red Rocks. Great songs, and his band is always best of the best.

Never saw him live but I have enjoyed his music alot. Great phrasing and more R&B the last 30 years. St. Dominic's Preview is a great tune. He kinda went the Joe Cocker route with full horns and background singers to make for one thick blanket of music. Wonder how many hotels he has stayed in for the last 60 years?

I remember some railing against the music industry in the 70's? Maybe he loved those 6 figure record sales checks more than the tour grind?

The artists of this generation made a lot of money with publishing and record digits. That $ era is gone. Now it's young, fashion and touring.

Them was a huge influence on me in 65. I loved the one hit wonder rock n roll. I found the cheapest place to buy 45's (59 cents...Zody's, or White Front) and I accumulated many divergent hits. I can still see the vinyl spinning around. Thanks Van.

"Back on top."

i have quite a few cds but there is one i'm not that enamored with, " days like this." seems like he was bored. i loved his initial stuff with them and still play mystic eyes and here comes the night. on the Scorsese blues dvds, he does a couple of great songs with jeff beck. they should have done more together!!

play music!

I have most of his albums, many purchased in the early 70's. The album you mentioned, "Days Like This" came out in the mid 90's, some 20 years later.

Honestly, I love it too in a different way, knowing he was 20 years older, now that I am 60 something! It is an amazing album; not bored, just more knowing. Best wishes and Happy Thanksgiving!
