Default Carbon Fiber slacking

Led Kaapana just finished up a NorCal mini-tour and before he left I got him into my home studio for a few numbers. In this video he's playing his uke in F so I grabbed my Lafayette era CA OX Raw which I keep tuned to F taropatch (open G down a whole step):

That was really fun to watch. A couple of buddies sitting around playing some tunes. The uke and OX sounded mighty fine. Real tasty playing. Thanks for sharing, Fran.

You hit that nail dead center - when Led's around we put plenty of miles on our strings just for the fun of hearing what comes out.

Nice! Thanks for posting! The uke playing was great and the CA OX sounds great! Much more natural sounding to my ear than the Emerald guitars.I am aware that my opinion may not reflect the opinion of others.

Thanks, Sean. I've enjoyed that guitar a lot over the years.

It's my contention that if Ledward were not such a stellar slack key player (and standard tuning picker as well) he could be a famous `ukulele player. Some of the younger uke masters point to Led as one of their primary influences.

I'm really a fan of the CA OX and I keep telling Led he needs one for his road guitar. His wonderful old Martin 000-16 really suffers from the big humidity swings between Hawai`i and the mainland.

Fran...you’re a fine, respected player. Clearly, you like and get the most out of your OX. I had an ‘08 GXi and still have an ‘08 Cargo, so I like CAs. I’m curious as to which composite guitars you have tried over the years, which you liked and didn’t, and if anything in particular is on your radar.

Tom, I'm a hack with crippled hands, but thanks for the kindness. As far as the CA OX vs other composite guitars, I'd have to say that this is the only one I've bonded with over the years. I fondled a Rainsong back in the day when they were built in Hawai`i and was not taken with the "unique" sound they achieved. Of the various CA models I've tried, the OX is the one that stood out to me, with the Cargo tickling my interest a bit. I briefly owned an Emerald X20 but I passed it along after a fairly short trial.

I'm rather well set with guitars, having sampled a pretty wide range since I left electrics for acoustic-land and I've brought home more than I should. I'd plead guilty to having an inclination toward the Martin sound and being really fussy about nut width, bridge spacing, neck shape, the general feel and geometry of the guitar. So my preferences are probably not a good guide for most people.
