Thanks Gents! The abalone is paua. The rosette and fingerboard purflings were done using shell pieces. The headstock purfling and diamonds were made from paua abalam.

My customer came by last night to check it out prior to shooting lacquer, and he approves! He is already talking about getting back in the queue for another build. Nice to have a local customer again that can drop in periodically. My last few guitars have all gone out of state to folks I had only exchanged emails with and talked to over the phone.

Like Ed, I'm impressed with the bound backstrap.
Well done. And the two-species inlays? Homemade? They are quite nice!

Steve, yes, the abalone and MOP diamonds are home brew. My customer wanted diamonds but something a bit different, so I worked up that design. They turned well, and I would expect to use them again on another build some day.

Been awhile since I posted to this thread. February was such a brutal month in Michigan, and I am so glad it is behind us! Though I have a heater in my shop, I didn't want to fight the subzero temps to get it warm enough to spray, so I waited for warmer weather. And we finally have it...yeah!

I shot 9 coats of lacquer then level sanded the finish. Am now in the process of shooting the final coats. I shot a few pics while the last coat was wet and thought I would post a couple. Glad to be making progress on this one again.

May I say how much I like the look of the neck with the wide center piece with the black binding. It looks just great.

Yes Tom you may!! Yes, that neck is particularly tasty! I spend months working with these woods and so nice to see the color and figure pop under finish!

I should have the guitar all dialed in within two to three weeks and will post more pix of her then.

A brief update on my current build. Saturday was two weeks since the last coat of lacquer, so I level sanded and buffed the body. Hope to have strings on her this week.

Beautiful guitar.

That's some of the finest Sapele I've seen. One of my favourite tonewoods.

Thanks gents! Got her fretted, Waverleys installed, pickup installed, and the bridge glued on. Tomorrow it's a nut, saddle and strings. Love stringing up a new one.

Love the neck. Not much I don't admire, actually! Looking forward to the final pictures, and if possible, a sound clip of this little gem.

Thanks Steve and Mike!

My customer came by this evening and picked up this little gem. I am happy to report that he said the guitar exceeded his expectations! Before he left, he made sure I had him back in the queue for another build

I recorded a soundfile yesterday of the guitar. She is still a bit tight, having only been strung up 4 days, and the action is just a touch on the low side to allow for a bit more doming in the top over the next few weeks. But she sounded surprisingly good for being so green:

Atsushi's Curly Sapele Sound File

Here are a few pictures of the completed guitar:

Thanks for looking!
