When I looked under the UST, the bottom of the slot was flat, not rounded as sdelsoray said. That could account for the pickup compressing over time.

Yay!!! Glad to hear it worked out well for you. I actually played my Ibanez at church Good Friday plugged in direct and was happy with its tone.
