Default Pickups combo

I'd like to try the Godin Icon 3, with the three Lollar p-90's. I read that the Lollar and Gibson P-90's have the best frequency responses.

  1. Gretsch 6120 with TV Jones Filtertrons into a Carr Rambler
  2. Vintage Strat with stock PUs or a reissue with Fralin Vintage Hots into a Dumble
  3. Les Paul with Antiquities or other high-end PAF clone into a JTM45
  4. Strat with a Duncan IM1 or 78 into a Plexi Super Lead
  5. Guyton Red Special replica into treble booster and AC30

That's an interesting thought, Strat. I've never seen one of those.

Have you ever played one of those prewar horseshoe pickups? I think they used #36 wire, the coil is huge and the resistance of mine is a just under 2K ohms. Output is between the P100s in my LP Special and the SD Jazz in another guitar - much more than average strat pickups. I would call the tone P90-like. The horseshoe design makes it resistant to rf noise, and string-to-string balance is excellent. It's a pity that Tom Hall is so bloody-minded in his defence of Rick designs. Jason Lollar made one for a while, but I think the threat of expensive litigation made him desist.

You know, I'd like to try a DiMarzio Super Distortion in my Gibson Les Paul. I have a Super Distortion in two of my other guitars but not in my Gibson.
