That's awesome! And yes, it's an absolute joy to be playing alongside her. She now can play a one-finger G and C chord, Em, and has been working on the "D" chord. With those four chords, we've been able to play a few songs, from Pearl Jam's "Last Kiss", "Magic Changes" from Grease (although obviously not the named chords of the song), Green Day's "Time of your Life". We're working on other songs, and I'm going to teach her a chord or two at a time, mostly allowing her enthusiasm to drive her learning. It's fun to experience the joy of having a song come together, or a simply triumph of a chord played cleanly through her eyes and ears.

How about one of the Squier hollow body Telecasters? They aren't heavy at all, so it would just be a matter of how she likes the neck.

I mentioned going to GC to try others, including a thinline Tele, or testing out the Vox, and her response was "We can go, but you're not getting back the Strat." I have to say, she has good taste, lol. I'm just as happy because I haven't been playing it, but put a lot of good stuff into it and a) don't want to sell it even though I'm not playing it, and b) I'd never get out of it, monetarily, what I put in. So as long as she likes it, it's hers.

I was surfing YouTube earlier today (kinda snowed in, aren't we lately? ) and I came across the old three-chord Cream tune "Strange Brew"...

Lets see: she's got a modded Strat, you've got a new bass that's getting lonely sitting in the case - does her mom play drums...?

Steve, so funny you mention that...we bought an electronic keyboard my wife has been thinking of learning on, and my 9-year old took a few drum lessons. We'd be a modern Partridge Family!! Although, since my older daughter has renewed interest in the guitar, so does my younger daughter. I'm looking into a multicolored bus anyway....

I remember hearing about two sisters doing something like that a while back:

Good luck...

Hey Mike,
Unless you have already bought your daughter a guitar,I have a 1994 Jackson JSX94 that is unused. It is glitter cobalt blue with rosewood fingerboard and has the fixed bridge folks are talking about. A great guitar that I bought new and never played! I am moving and it will just sit in a closet. How about $200 plus shipping?
I have pics I can put up. Happy to pay it forward to a new girl player.
Let me know,
Jan

P.S. I'll throw in a cool pink cord!

Jan, yes, please post or send pictures. She's kind of bonded with my Strat, but I'd certainly give her the option, thank!

6L6, she's got my Strat, and if she keeps it, we'll go lighter, but not took light because she does want to get comfy with an acoustic. Thanks for the suggestion!

Default Electric for 12 Year old

Grab one of those Mexican Carbonita tele's. I think they run around $275 and have been featured in Mick Taylor's "Guitarist" magazine on the front cover.

I'm going to but one and i have plenty of other guitars.

Don't let Denny Zager here that !

All kidding aside, my daughter is 13 and a clarinet and ukulele player. She really wants an electric guitar so we did some research.

Daisy Rock is the absolute best bet. They are very real, very serious instruments. They are specifically designed with neck profiles, sizes and weights to be playable and comfortable for young/small girls.

They make many very young-girly type guitars (shaped like flowers, sparkly roses etc.) but make no mistake - they are intentionally trying to appeal to little girls and make guitars enjoyable for them.

They have some really good guitars.

And they are not crappy toys like Main Street, First Act, etc. These are real guitars.

The company (IIRC) was founded by the lead guitarist for a thrash punk band called The Sluts, so that gives you an idea that they aren't this lollipop and unicorn toy they may appear to be.

I highly recommend any of the debutante series.

Default Daisy

My niece has one. They are a good choice but she may feel it a bit hoky when she gets older. i truly believe people should star out with an instrument they'll want to keep forever.

She's very happy with my Strat. We may wind up at a GC on Sunday (East Brunswick, NZ - nice store), so we can look around, but so far she really likes the Strat. Thanks for all the suggestions!
