If, as you say, you have an Apple computer, GarageBand comes with a pretty good free guitar course. Works pretty well - shows you the fingering on the fretboard and allows you to play along and assess yourself.

Go to the nearest music store and buy yourself a good sized book on guitar chords too. The internet is great, but having a resource right in front of you is good. Sometimes I'll take out one of my chord books and just strum a bunch of chords I don't usually play just for the heck of it to explore the different chord voicings.
