Default who wants to do a 40 day practice challenge with me?

Starting tomorrow I'm doing a 40 day stretch where I'm going to practice every day. We used to do this with the kids' music practice and I decided to put money where my mouth is and do it too. I recently did a 30 day one and I thought it was great. Here's my personal challenge:

- practice 2 hours a day 40 days in a row (only exception is if me or the family are too sick)
- record 5 songs
- learn one new fingerpicking piece

Anybody want to join in? It can be any sort of goal(s) that you'd like to achieve in 40 days.

I love this idea. Not sure what my goals would be yet, but I think this is a good challenge.

This could be the kick in the pants I need. I'm interested.

I'm in! Maybe we should create a thread over in the PLAY section of the forum to keep track of everyone's progress.

This is great! We should definitely check in with our experiences/challenges from time to time. I know it wasn't easy for me to do 30 days last time. I think we should do our best to support and encourage each other. We're in this together right?

Good point. Maybe we could have it moved to PLAY by our friends the moderators. Honestly I didn't think to post it there. Sorry.

For you guys with iPhones/iPads check out this app for keeping track of your practice. This is the free version, I liked it so much I got the full app.

Good idea. Several years ago I got into the routine of playing an at least an hour a day. At the time I was working hard on my fingerstyle blues so it was fun. I did this for over a year and progressed in leaps and bounds. I've been trying to maintain that practice habit but life doesn't always co-operate.

Go for it if you can but make sure to have a comprehensive lesson or learning plan and set goals. You WILL be amazed at the advancements you can make with a solid practice schedule.

I'd love to, but I have three kids (ages 6, 3, and 20 months). Heck, I can't even get 10 minutes to go to the bathroom without this happening:

Very cool, My goals:

1) Get those 5 songs written and recorded. I have three in the works but never seem to force myself to finish them, this should help!

2) Improve my fingerstyle in alt tunings.

3) Put that new guitar I just ordered through it's paces!

I try and practice every day already - write down my goals and away I go. Not sure I can find two hours a day, but I'm up for having a more intense focus for 40 days. Have to ponder on a goal or two overnight.
