Default poll: which fender amp should i sell

a real good friend has asked to buy one of my fender amps.

i have a 1964 fender bassman blackface aa864 w/o cab, a 1965 fender bassman aa165 with cab and 1967 fender showman w/o cab.

i also have a 1964 fender blonde bassman with cab, so if i keep the 64 then i have the last blonde and the first blackface with the blonde's cab to service each one.

if i keep the 65 aa165 with cab then i can sell the aa864 head and still have a set of blonde and blackface with cabs.

the showman is very quiet, powerful and the vibrato is great. if i sell it, then i still have all of the bassman amps with a couple of cabs.

what a quandry, huh?

note that i will not be gigging with any of this equipment as i can't lift them. ha!

let me know your recommendations and why.

play music!

mikeB.

The aa864 sounds like the one I'd let go. Seems the most redundant, and doesn't have the matching cab. They're all great amps though!

Wow, some great vintage amps! I honestly don't know which to sell but I'm with MBE (^), sell one of the bassmans so that you still have diversity with the showman. I'm not speaking from any collector point of view.

Do you have to sell?

Well, you have some wonderful amplifiers; old Fender stuff is absolutely THE BOMB!

I voted for getting rid of the '65, but I voted before reading your thread fully... after reading it, I have to say that I am of the opinion that you should sell all of them, but take your time and get top dollar for each... (unless you want to do your friend a "solid" and cut him a deal!)

If I have a piece of gear that I REALLY don't use, I don't see the point of having it around, not while there are folks who would appreciate and use it, no matter what it is... I just don't like having a bunch of clutter and stuff that I'm not going to make use of...

Get a sweet Deluxe Reverb and a Princeton Reverb and get those dialed in, and you're good to go for pretty much anything you will need (in this day and age of PA's and mic'ing cabinets and lower overall volume levels)... blackface amps, of course! Possibly salvage any truly vintage tubes from the ones you will sell, just so you are armed with what you'll need for the amps you have?

That's my 2 cents... as much as I love my little 1967 ES-175, I would sell it in a heartbeat to the right buyer...

I prefer Vintage amps. I'd listen to them one after another, and let the one go with the least desirable tone. Tough choice, they all sound like great amps.

i hear ya!

my main setup right now is a 66 deluxe reverb and a 59 tweed princeton with an aby pedal in front. that way i get the glorious cleans from the deluxe and the crunchy from the princeton. so, you are right about a deluxe and a princeton!!

yes, i'm retubbing all of them with new jj brand tubes.and pulling the old tubes.

good point, and so far the showman is actually the cleanest looking and the quietest of the three. it has one drawback in that it is missing the back panel.

I'd sell all of them and get a nice '66 or '67 Deluxe Reverb. And put a Celestion G12H30 speaker in it.

How much do you use any of them if you're not gigging?
How much to replace a set of tubes in each head?
I got rid of my 67 Bandmaster w/68 2x12 cabinet because they were too freaking heavy and I wasn't using them at home. I hated hauling that 90lb cabinet myself when I was young - forget it now!

mikebmusic: i hardly use them at all and that is why i am preparing them to sell. i hear you about the weight as my right shoulder hurt for a couple of days just from moving the chassis' while working on them. i'm retired now so i'm selling these to help fund my healthcare fund that i will need some day.

now i have to figure out the best way to sell them. i thought about an auction at my house but that may turn out to be a mess so i'll probably just go to ebay with local pickup. even tho i've used craigslist with no problem for smaller, less expensive items, i'm a little paranoid as i don't want someone coming in with a 45 and taking the amp and my money. i've noticed that a lot of people are not shipping them due to their fragile nature and the shipping costs.
thanks,
mikeB(also)

Hard to argue with this. If you aren't going to gig with the big ones, they are probably too big for household use.

ha! actually you are right as i'm presently using a 59 tweed princeton as my "dirt" channel with a couple of pedals, and, a 66 deluxe reverb as my "effects" channel with 4 strymon pedals(bypassed or not), and the deluxe's vibrato and/or reverb, with a morley aby switch to instantiate the two channels as needed. i really enjoy the old school with the new school, or not!

I listed my stuff on ebay (local pickup only) and craigslist, ended up selling the cabinet through ebay and the head on CL.
yeah, you've always got to be careful regarding pickup sales, but I've never had an issue - guess it depends on where you are, as well as the value of what you're selling.
