Sold a 1962 Fender Jazzmaster for $200 about 30 years ago...would do anything to have not done that...still have an old photo of it...makes me want to cry when I look at it. Lesson learned...I haven't sold a guitar since.

Ouch. I'd be kicking myself too. Those are nice.

...i've been buying selling and trading electric guitars since the late sixties and i've owned many of the iconic pieces that sell for unbelievable prices these days...guitars that go for tens of thousands of dollars were to be had for hundreds in those early days....do i wish had a few back??...yeah i guess... but the guitars that are being built today are equally awesome and in some cases far more desirable to me than the originals...i respect and love old pieces but not at the price they now command....its not like i don't get it because i've played and owned so many of them over the years....acoustics i get a little more because the age of the instrument does make a discernible difference to my ear and because they're so much more fragile to begin with, their survival is more impressive...

Little did we know how electric guitars would appreciate. That's why I'm hanging on to my 25 year old Korean BC Rich Warlock (my 2nd electric), just in case it goes up in value a few years down the road.

Speaking of BC Rich, I'm ordering a GMW shaped like a Mockingbird with H-S-H electronics soon-ish. Still need to sort out a few specs.

I had one that got away, and it changed my life.

My Grandfather's, then fathers original 1958 White Falcon, passed on to me. I carried it to my first duty station. 18 years old and no money, needed some gas to get to my girlfriends house and pawned it for around $100. My grandfather bought it new, he gave it to my father when he enlisted in 1961, father gave it to me for the same reason in 1980.

And didnt get back in time to pick it up and lost it.

That was almost 35 years ago and to this day I have never lost anything else in a Pawn Shop or on a collateral backed loan, because I have not Pawned anything or used any of my "stuff" for collateral since that day.

If I dont have the money I dont have the money. I would rather eat grass if starving than pawn something again.

Default The electric guitar that got away?

I sold a Westbury Standard for about £100 back in around 1986 (I'd bought it used for £75 the year before). I didn't have the knowledge or patience to sort out the bridge which had seriously worn saddles and the guitar was very hard to intone and get good action. The body was a bit battered but honestly, I wish I'd kept that guitar: fixed neck, DiMarzio pickups and easy on the shoulders.

My big regret is selling my Aria SB Black n Gold bass when I went off to college in 1989. It was the right thing to do economically but a dumb-*** decision given how rare they are now. I should have sold the fretless instead. I don't actually need another bass in the house these days, and if I did get one I'd probably get a Stingray just to have the whole Leo Fender-associated set, but I wish I'd never let that one go...

The other regret I have is not buying my Dad's Shergold Masquerader when he was moving abroad. It wasn't a guitar I really bonded with but it would have been nice to own a piece of English guitar (and personal family) history.

It's tough to buy something that you don't bond with. Shame about the sentimental value though.

Sold my mint condition CAR 1963 Strat for $6K when I thought the market had peaked. Left about $50K on the table with that one…

Sold my '53 Telecaster for $8K when I thought the market had peaked. Left about $50K on the table with that one too.

My business plan with guitars has always been, "Buy High, Sell Low". So far I'm batting almost 100%.

Well Dru occasionally, but I mostly played my White Les Paul Custom on the ship that I rewired and ran it stereo thru two tweed tweaked Vibroverbs...BUT I played the Tele a lot at a club on the beach in Fernandina; it screamed on the Zep tunes Dru and I installed a Duncan 1/4 pounder in the front; so phat bro!
