A beat-to-crap Gibson 1950s Southern Jumbo. Felt like it weighed about two pounds, and seemed to be on the brink of falling apart at any moment. Still, every strum and note played channeled the voices of angels.

Default Best I've ever played.

Probably in the '00s with my old jazz rock fusion band.

Oh, you mean't the best guitar I have ever played?

'16 Yamamoto Talus VS-12.

Default the best

Excluding my own of course, there have been 4 that really hit me when I played them:
1) A Scalloped braced dread that was in the Martin museum for anyone to play (well-chosen, that)
2) A friend's all mahogany Guild (surprised me to no end - from the first strum)
3) Bruce Sexauer's pear guitar from Woodstock
4) A Ryan (Mission?) I played there last year

The last two were just superlative in every way. All 4 were the kind of instrument that made you play better than you ever had before.

The guitar that I have never been able to get out of my mind is a '49 D-28. It had a character to it's sound, and an ease of play that I haven't forgotten in nearly 30 years. I compare every rosewood dread to my memory of that guitar. Haven't found an equal yet.
