That continues to celebrate itself as the birthplace of HHP I might add...

Man that's a big fast food joint
Sometimes a bit of humor is a good slave for a sad situation. I gotta go mow the lower pasture (seriously) so I'll bug out and quit deflecting the thread .
Condolences to the families of the victims , later

I'm thinking at least a plaque in the lobby would be appropriate.

Actually I heard that the city was replacing JEB Stuart (which sits out front) with your likeness...killing two birds with one stone so to speak....

There's a school in Franconia (Virginia) named after Robert E. Lee. I wonder if they're going to do something about the name.

I have no opinion on this matter.

I think it becomes a slippery slope very quickly....

Robert E. Lee was a West Point graduate who served the US Army for 32 years. Even though I disagree with him on many topics he was a scholar and a gentleman. IMHO he would be appalled by the ilk of people flying the battle flag of northern Virginia alongside swastikas.

I have no opinion on Robert E. Lee. What I learned from my history classes is that he was an excellent general.

Many don't know that before he took command of the Army of Northern Virginia, he was offered command of all Union forces.

Not being a native Virginian but having lived here for the past 50 years, I feel that the Civil War, not slavery, is a part of modern day Virginia culture. Since more Civil War battles were fought here than any other state, there are many, many remembrances of that time in our history. While it may seem incongruous to some to draw a strong line of demarcation between slavery and the Civil War, that's been the sense I've gotten over the past 50 years as a Virginian. As I previously said, it's a very slippery slope when one tries to begin erasing a part of history that's such significant part in a state such as Virginia....

I do not know of anyone (besides Confederacy apologists) that are trying to erase, or rewrite history. Markers, memorials, and statues are being moved to museums and buildings and streets (in some places) are being renamed. This in no way erases any part of history. It does not impact anyone's heritage. It does remove offensive tributes to people who waged war against our country.

Robert E. Lee was a rebel and a traitor.
Statues of him and his ilk are like a spit in the face of America.
Robert E. Lee can take his place in history next to Benedict Arnold and Timothy McVeigh.
