Default NuGD: Taylor 818e

I purchased this used Taylor 818e last night from GC. I had it shipped from out of state. The price was excellent. There is only one blemish that I have found. Looks like someone played it quite a bit because the sound is broken in. It needs a new bone saddle to add some definition to the treble strings. I also ordered a set of mint Gotoh 510s from eBay. I really like the tone so far. It will be even better after a good setup. It's hard to see from the picture, but the rosewood has a lovely reddish tint. It's very pretty.

Nice Taylor! Is this model bigger than the GA body shape?

Does this take you over the tipping point... to changing your name to "taylorgitdave"? .... seriously... I love those big GO shaped bodies! I am looking at a 518e and was wondering if it lives up to the hype. Taylor advertises the x18 series to be easy to get a lot of volume from it with a light touch (even fingerstyle), because of the bracing. I would be curious to know if you find that to be true with your 818e.
Congratulations!

Lol. I do like my Taylor guitars, don't I? As far as the GO shape, it is more sensitive than my Martin Dread. But, not as loud as the Martin's Adi top. It is however, a breeze to play. I love these necks.

Mighty Nice, David! The Taylor Grand Orchestra model, in its various tonewood combinations, is a model I think most guitarists would enjoy playing and listening to--Gorgeous Tonality! Enjoy!

They'll be cool Dave, I'm normally not a fan of the 510's appearance, too modern, but for some reason they seem to look best on Taylor guitars.
Play-wise and tone-wise is this a 6-string version of your Taylor 858?

Exactly. I bought the 858e first. I was so impressed, I decided to try the 6 string version. That was the beginning of the end... ;-)

David, when you've had a chance to play them side-by-side, please give us your thoughts on the tonality of your Taylor 818e compared to your Martin Marquis. Thanks.
