She's incredible! When I first briefly glanced at the picture on a smaller screen I thought "that kid in all black is awesome but he's too happy for a guy." Then I was in another room listening and the vocal came in and I thought "oh, he's looping a female singer now." Then I came back and saw it was a her! By then I was already a fan pretty much. She's got quite a story too. A bad mushroom trip that went on for almost a year until her music pulled her out of it:

If you don't like the reggae and blues she's great just sitting down with an acoustic guitar. Next level altogether. And she'll never be mistaken for a guy in this one:

Sure. I bet Prince would have his eye on her if he was still around down here.

A couple of days ago, a random click of YT, instant fan...the vibe and groove of the music playing her...she reaches in and goes for the ride. Looper, I don't care...Bill Frisell uses a looper. And she brings alot of sounds, e.g. Miles, Sade, Frisell, Marley etc. Blows my mind how she weaves it all together. And I'm a geezer...and bummed that her Seattle and Vancouver shows are sold out.

Absolutely not, but we get treated that way sometimes.

Thought it was a pretty good music act, but a great circus act.

The fact that she made it to NPR shows she has some special abilities. And, I agree that it is primarily music as performance art, if we want to give it a category.
Nothing new here at all. "Older" musicians have probably seen this looper stuff longer than younger ones. Loopers have been around about 25 years now.

And look, she's playing one of those old dead instruments, a "guitar" I think it's called? Poor kid probably doesn't read The Washington Post. Somebody oughta clue her in.

I give a A+ for putting herself out there and barring her soul . Way too much looping with too little meat and potatoes. Actually made me nervous and had to shut it off.

I think the premise (explicitly stated in the title) of this thread was to bait people into criticizing someone else's style.

I think it's a negative way to introduce people to a new/different performer.

This thread is not my cup of tea.

Whoever said it wasn't in the entertainment business, or any business at all. What others think of you when you're hoping to gain a following, whether regular customers in a store front or as an entertainer looking for support from venues and fans, it most certainly is your business to be concerned about what others think.

Like all too many sound bites, sounds clever, means nothing.
