Epiphone FT-79 1949 rare ladder braced $2400 shipped
One that I know I regret selling at some point, but...I need to do it. Amazing guitar. As people know who've played these pre-Gibson Epi flat tops, they're criminally overlooked and underrated.
Ladder braced, pre-Gibson Epiphone, with spruce top and arched laminate back. Unsure of the back wood, but possibly walnut. I've seen listed that they used mahogany in 1949, but doesn't look like it to me. Laminated neck with a single strip down the middle. Incredible sounding guitar, very loud, crisp and clear. Arched back gives it a lot of volume. Everything is original save for: --saddle --tuners (stew mac golden age restoration) --new frets Recent work was done by Jim Lowenherz of Guitar Works in Portland. This included: --bridge reglue --new saddle --neck recent --refret Lots of natural play wear. The top crack on the lower bout was repaired at some point in the past and is stable. The repair job was not pretty and is visible with some type of adhesive and/or finish over it, but is functionally a non-issue. It's all set up and plays great. Comes with non-original hard case. Nice vintage top
Factoid: If you shine a lite up thru the top wood it will not shine thru showing the braces as that old wood has seasoned, unlike doing it to a more recent guitar. GLWS
btw: love my old epi |
