My answer on strings is always the same. The strings that attracted you to the guitar are what I replace the old strings with first. Then once I've decided how much I enjoy the new set of original strings, I experiment with 3-4 different makes/models of strings and see if I prefer one (or more) to the originals. Once I'm sure I have a great sound and feel from a particularly enjoyable set, I will experiment periodically with a previously untried string type to see if a different combination will give me an A HA moment. Good luck with your search.

You need to experiment to see what works for you & that particular guitar.

My first choice for my classicals are the La Bella 2001s. The D'Addario Pro Arte & the Savarez (blues or reds) are nice as well.

I tend to prefer medium tension, but that's me.

My Yairi Classical (cy130, Conquistador) loves Savaraz blue. As your guitar ages, the cedar should get darker and darker (tonewise) so the brighter the strings, the better, to bring out the crispness. That's what my experience on my instrument is, anyway.

p.s. Mine is a 1977 and the cedar has grown to have a devastating bass

I'm sorry - I typed Savarez above when I meant Augustine Reds or Blues.

I like D'Addario Pro Arte Composite Hard Tensions on my classicals. But we all hear things differently, so we all have to journey until we find what speaks to us.
