Where do you place your strap button?

My D-55 has a wide flat neck and the logical place for the button is at the base of the neck at the center of the back.

I don't like that position and would like to place the button in a more traditional placement.

Will I be able to do it that way without the button showing a big gap on both sides of the button?

Your placement pictures are welcome and appreciated.

Check this out.

http://www.stewmac.com/How-To/Online...ap_button.html

I believe the majority of players and manufacturers prefer position 5.

I bought a D-55 in 1977 and put the button in position 2.
I wish I hadn't.
I prefer 5 on my acoustic guitars because of how the guitar 'hangs' when the strap is attached there.
I won't move it because I don't want a hole in the white plastic at the end of the heel.

Thank you for that guide.

I have 2 guitars with buttons at #2 and I don't like it.
On one of them, I went ahead and added a second button at #5 position.

My Guild has a neck that makes placing the button at position #5 iffy.
I think that I will go ahead and place it there any way because that is where I prefer to have the button.

The button is ordered and I will receive it in a couple of days.
I hope that I don't regret my decision on placement.

Since you have experience, do what you prefer.
What most others like doesn't matter.

I put one in each of the 5 positions to cover all the options. The extra weight doesn't seem to be a problem but I do bump my knuckles when I play high on the neck.

I have the button in position 5 on all my guitars, including my two Guilds. Never had any issues.

In my opinion 3, 4 and 5 are the better positions with 5 being my favorite. I've installed buttons in all of my steel guitars with the exception of my Guild D-55 using position 5. 1 and 2 are completely useless and must have been thought of by a committee.

Here's a couple pictures of the button installed in the D-120ce.

My D-55 came to me in position 3. I don't know if Guild put it there, or the previous owner did. It's an odd history guitar, as it was the prototype D-55 for the 2008 NAMM show, when they fist moved to New Hartford. Ovations have their strap buttons there, so maybe the Ovations guys installed it ?

Lol, that's very funny!

My D-46 has it in Position #4. I'm the second owner, and it came to me like that. Always wondered if it was put there at the factory.

I'm glad it's not in #2, I hate that.

I think I have heard a similar story about a proto D40, but they may have moved it to 5 for production models following customer feedback. But don't quote me on that ...

Oddly my F47R came without a second button, which suited me, fortunately !!
