I'm not sure I understand the question. You can clearly see what he's playing from your link??

I too do not quite understand your question "is this guy playing an acoustic guitar?"

But I suppose the simple answer is Yes. He is playing an acoustic guitar.

That is Sungha Jung, and he's playing his Lakewood guitar.

+1 thanks
I thought it might be classical because I think he is finger picking,
and that usually is done on a classical guitar.

Classicals are acoustic guitars as well. You meant to ask if it was a steel string acoustic I think.

Yes, most classical/nylon string players use their fingers - but MANY, MANY steel string acoustic players fingerpick!

yes a steel strig acoustic. I have seen more fingerstyle guitarists lately on steel strings than nylon. BUT these are aslo not CLASSICAL pieces really.

Out of curiosity, isn't that an acoustic-electric guitar? Doesn't it have a pick-up across the sound hole?

Cheers,
Sand

Having a pickup is one way of amplifying an acoustic guitar, but in everyday language, having one doesn't turn it into an electric. But no, that is definitely not a classical guitar, nor an electric. It's an acoustic guitar with a pickup, being well played by a talented guy!

+1 excellent. I thought of selling my nylon string guitar to buy
a steel string acoustic guitar for fingerpicking.

I thought I can trade/sell my Yamaha GC31 for decent Taylor steel string

peace

if you go with a Taylor then either go for the GA or GC bodies. work well for fingerstyle.

Playing? Hmmm.... I'd say it's more like he's owning that particular acoustic guitar....

Owning yes. yes indeed. But yeah, I play on a steel string, and do a mixture of finger picking and strumming. it all depends on the songs I wanna play at the time. I don't want to play Snow (Hey Oh) by RHCP without my pick, if you get my meaning

Yes it's an acoustic guitar but kind of sounds like an electric because of the sound hole pick up. It picks up the vibration of the string and tends to make it sound like an electric guitar.
