I've been using a strip of foam under the strings just behind the nut for the last few years. It's nice to see Leo K. doing the same thing. The high pitched sympathetic drone from the strings between the nut and tuners was particularly annoying on a Seagull I once had, and I guess I just got sensitized to hearing it, so now I just use the little strip of urethane foam on my guitars. The improvement is subtle, but I have more than enough ringing in my ears to begin with from years of industrial noise exposure.
I make a big enough fashion statement with my extensive blue jean and flannel shirt collection. I'm from up dare in Wisconsin, yah enso? Humor me. |

On several of my mandolins, I have rubber grommets wedged between the double strings between the bridge and tailpiece. I think I had one where I also used them on the headstock. But the flowing bandana is clearly a throwback to the late '60s/early '70s when such affectations were more widely tolerated and imitated. I went so far as buying a Mexican shirt with an embroidered yoke (yes, dudes did wear them back then) but never did the flowing headstock scarf thing.
