1 3/4 Alternative to Martin 000-15M
Hi all. I have a Martin 00015M. I love the sound of the darn thing but wanting to concentrate mostly on fingerstyle I would do better with a 1 3/4 nut width. What would be a good swap or lateral move from the 000-15M to get the 1 3/4 nut width? I'm also fine with models up to $2500. ish and mahogany back and sides as well. All suggestions appreciated. BTW the 000-15M may be up in the Emporium as a trade/partial trade to achieve the nut change!

Taylor has an all mahogany spring limited in their GC body size (short scale). Not sure what the price is.

I'm lucky - I have no problem playing fingerstyle on my 000-15M.
You may want to consider buying an OM-21 Special. |

maybe there's a custom 000-15 model out there or on the way with a 1 3/4" nut. have you checked with laguitarsales.com, maury's and myfavoriteguitars.com ?

I usually prefer Martins to Taylors, but right now Taylor has a spring 2011 Limited Edition all-mahogany in a grand concert size... very similar to the 000. I've played it in 2 different stores and it's a beautiful guitar...

Larrivee OM-03MT. Nicer than the Martin 000-15 in many respects, and I even prefer the Larrivee's tone.

and...
let me add a voice to the suggestion to check out LA Guitar Sales. Ted has done a couple orders of all mahogany Martins - both with 1 3/4 inch nut width. One is an OM (000-14 fret body size a little longer scale length) and a 00-15 and both of them feature the improvements noted in the new 15 m series from Martin. Some of them may still be available with tortoise binding.
The GC series are my favorites when it comes to Taylor guitars. With the all mahogany, you might just get a taste of traditional tone along with Taylor brightness. Good luck! john

I forgot about the OM-15. Same scale length as the 000-15, just a wider nut AFAIK.

1 3/4 alternative
I've actually been considering the OM21 Special. Two questions if you will. Does anyone have experience a/b ing the OM21 Special and OM21? Also, how does the OM21/OM21 Special playing experience differ from the 00015M? Thanks so much.

If you're looking for warm/mellow/woodsy, go with the 15. The 21 is louder and, erhm, different.

If price is not an option, then the OM-21 Special is without a doubt a sleeper.
