Default Veillette Terz 12 String Macassar/Adirondack

Hi,

I recently joined AGF after getting good info from the forums, and I would like to give back a little. I am having an acoustic built by Joe and the guys at Veillette Guitars and wanted to share the experience.

The guitar they are building for me is a Terz unison tuned 12 string. It has a 22" scale and is normally tuned A to A, like a capo at the 5th fret. Unlike a capoed up standard guitar, the tuning and scale combine for a very punchy combination of sparkle and growl. I currently have a 6 string which I play almost every day. Great for writing and for using alternate tunings.

Terz 12 String Specs:
Body 14” with cutaway, Macassar
Top Adirondack
Neck 22” scale, 1.9” nut, Maple, with Macassar Headstock veneer
Fingerboard Macassar, no markers
Bridge Macassar, Pinless

This isn't my first custom acoustic from Veillette. The others, Bari 6, Bari 12, Gryphon 12 (tuned C# to C# above standard tuning), and the Terz 6 are all great guitars. This is the first one where I have selected the woods myself.

As you can see from the pictures, I selected some dramatic Macassar for the body. They will also cut a headstock veneer from the excess wood. From the Macassar guitars I have heard and played, they have a solid low end and great sparkle, which should be excellent for this instrument.

I wanted to try an Adirondack top since I strum pretty hard on occasion. I wanted the darker lines to add some character.

The neck will be maple and will be finished clear like the body.
For the fingerboard and pinless bridge, I selected less dramatic Macassar.

Body will be bound with black binding top and bottom, no other ornamentation on the guitar.

For the tuning keys i haven't decided whether to go all black or use the standard Veillette black with amber buttons. Depends on the color of the piece they cut for the headstock veneer.

The guys have graciously offered to send in progress photos and I will get them posted soon after I receive them.

If you would like to know more about Veillette Guitars , their website is veilletteguitars.com.

Please let me know if you have any questions, I am happy to answer questions here or via PM.

Thanks, Ed.

Thought it might be with image size, but I was going to post some anyway, so we will see if that works.

Default Just recently discovered Veillette

Just happened upon the 'Terzilla', Gryphon and another at the Dream Guitars site a couple nights ago, with one of the main guys there playing some great music that showcases the guitars beautifully.

Sure would like one of those. I can just imagine what a special build with your custom wood will be like.

All the best with your build.

Rodco--

I know you'll enjoy your new Terz. I've tried a few Veillettes. If my ship ever comes in I'd really like a Gryphon.

Dream Guitars does a great job with showcasing the guitars, good audio and visuals. Al Petteway's playing is great and well suited to the instruments. Did you check out the acoustic doubleneck with a standard tuned 6 and a Gryphon 12? The larger body really adds a lot to the sound.

I discovered Veillette while researching baritones a handful of years ago. Bought an electric bari 12 with piezo on wooden bridge. Great sound, great player. Very easy and fast to play with 26.1" scale. Had Joe and the guys build me an acoustic bari 6 with flamed English maple back and sides and maple neck. Great guitar, deep and articulate. After that I was ruined. Have only bought Veillette acoustics since then and electrics as well.

If you get a Veillette, you won't be disappointed.
