I can buy an FG-340 T for an OK price, but know nuffing about Yamahas.
I will also buy unplayed, so what can this great forum tell me about this guitar ? Any info will be fantastic. Many thanx |

Go to the Yamaha 'Guitarchive' page and input: FG340t (like that, no gaps or hyphens), and it tells you the spec, dates etc for that guitar .

OK, acording to the site it has a Spruce top.
I was hoping it would be a Cedar top. |

It should be pointed out that this is an all-laminate guitar; there would be an, "S", suffix, if it were a solid topped instrument.

Yamaha fg340t

The fg340 was one of yamaha's all around better budget guitars, with the 3 piece back. I have one tht I like a lot, but it's a little skinned up and rough looking. Plays well though. The "T" means tinted, and I'm pretty sure the 3 pc back is still there, but the fg340 had a black center panel. The T has all wood grain on the back. Don't be scared of Yammie lammies. They can take it, and sound fine.

I've got two! The FPX300 and the FPX300N, one steel string the N is nylon. Solid Cedar tops and Rosewood sides for the steel and Ovankol sides for the nylon. They're a deep Grand Concert with 48mm necks and dual condenser mic/piezo pickups. They were designed for fingerstyle and were produced from 2000 to 04. Sweet sounding acoustically and magnificent when plugged in.

I have a 340T and it is an incredible playing and sounding guitar. If in decent shape, they are a great bargain!

Hey everyone,
I thought i could write here instead of posting a new thread. Could someone give me any tip on my Yamaha FG 340 made in Taiwan? I bought it new in 2000 or 2001 new. I tried the site mentioned above but it only shows FG 340 up until 1980's. My guitar is strange comparing to praised FG 340s - it has no 3 piece back, no binding. Where could i get some info on this guitar, specs etc.? |

I purchased a FG340 new back in 1978 and still have it and plays great. It has been a great guitar and it does have a lam top with the 3 piece back. It is a "tough" built guitar. It was made in Taiwan. There are a few around and if you can get one in good shape I don't think you will be sorry.
Mine is in pristine condition and I always get offers for it but I won't sell it.

Just to add here - Yamaha laminate guitars of the 70's/80's are usually great guitars, plus you get extra stability from the extremely well constructed laminates...
I have an FG350W all laminate dread, and the neck angle on her is still as good as the day it was made! Serious... |
