Default Need classical / nylon string guitar with slim neck

I have a bunch of guitars but no classical guitar. I do some songs fingerstyle, so, it might be cool to have one. My friend has an old Yamaha and it sounds and records great but the neck is huge. I mentioned that to him and, lo and behold, he came across a Taylor that has a thin neck. I see that they have many. I think I would rather go for value/function over bling, unless the high end ones truly sound/play better.

And I am not married to Taylor, it can be any brand. Thanks for any tips if you have any opinions on this. I've never played a Taylor classical. Nylon string, whatever you call it.

I am mainly thinking of a good recording guitar but also for writing and I also play gigs. But writing/recording is the main thought. If I love the way it plays, I can see how it could make it to gigs.

Yeah, Taylor nylon string guitars have the same ease of playability and slim necks that Taylor is known for. I don't think you'd be disappointed with one. Not sure of any other brands w/ a slim neck.

Taylor would be a great choice as would the crossover models from Cordoba.

+1 on Taylor. I gig with a Taylor 714 nylon and can't say enough good thing about it.

Also consider 7/8 and 3/4 sized classicals with thinner necks - Cordoba offers the Cadete.

Cordoba has just brought out a new model - the C10 Crossover. It seems to be 'classical' in every respect except that it has a narrower nut width and a slightly radiused fretboard. Solid spruce top, solid EIR back and sides, truss rod for neck support and tweaking - I don't think I am going to be able to resist getting one of these!

I would recommend one of the Yamaha NTX series crossovers. Good quality guitars, reasonable prices, great slim necks. There are a few different models to suit your budget:

Yes, I have the C9 parlor in cedar/mahogany, which has a short scale and a 1 7/8 nut width. It's a really fine guitar and extremely comfortable to play.

I have both a Yamaha classical and a Cordoba GK Studio.

The Yamaha has a nut width of 52mm where the GK Studio has a 50mm nut. For me that little bit makes the Cordobe much easier to play. The C10 has a 48mm nut, which seems to be the norm for hybrid or crossover models. I haven't run across one of those yet, but will keep my eyes peeled.

Another option if you are looking for a hybrid in the under $500 category would be the Alvarez AC65HCE. It also has a 48mm nut.

Good luck in your search!

Default Under $600 Hybrid Suggestions?

I have a Taylor 110 acoustic that I picked up on sale for about $400 maybe 6 years ago.
I love it - a lot of bang for the buck.

Now what I'm looking for is a nylon-string classical guitar that plays like an acoustic guitar with narrow neck and closer frets etc
I see the cutaways with electronics are popular, but I don't need the bells and whistles, and it puts them out of my budget too.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

I recently bought a Cordoba Fusion 12 in maple. Has a 1 7/8 neck, slight radius, om body. Sounds great unplugged and amped.

It's in the $600 Canadian range, but I've heard the quality/sound is mediocre.
I would prefer a simple guitar without the cutaway and electronics, in the same price range, that was on equal footing with my Taylor 110 acoustic -
at least in terms of bang for your buck, no bells and whistles, solid all-around guitar and sound.

Any other suggestions along these lines?

Cordoba maple fusion 14, very confortable neck, very good value for the price, and very sweet and clear sound, through the maple b and s are laminated.

Cool Need a classical guitar with a slim neck

Check with Antonio Hermosa guitars. They do offer at least one model with a narrower neck design, and can sometimes be found on eBay used, at reasonable prices.
