Good Introductory Classical?
I'd like to learn classical and have already done a little bit of it on a steel string guitar (I have David Braid's instructional book/CD) but I'd like to actually get a real classical guitar.
What are some good options for one that won't break the bank? Ideally I'd like a solid top model (laminate B/S is fine) that sounds good. Any help is appreciated.

Hi Lynn, a La Patrie Etude is $350 new and has a solid cedar top and laminate wild cherry back/sides. Great beginner guitar that is made in Quebec.

Vote for Cordoba C5 in the $300 price range. You might find a C7 in the same price range if you look around (there is one in my local craigslist for $275).

Do yourself a favor and spend a little more to get a used Cordoba C9 or C10......if you are patient, you can get a blem from Music123 or others on Ebay for around 500. They are all solid and they are "giant killers". I've had a couple of 1500-2000 used classicals here and my C9 tore them to shreds.

60 era Gibson classical guitars are very affordable and are somewhat considered "vintage".

Well that's certainly some good advice there. I might save up a little more for a used C9. My girlfriend has a cheap nylon string I can borrow to get started (she started playing and gave it up fairly quickly) so given a little more time and saving a used C9 isn't totally out of the picture.
I don't know what to do! LOL! This has definitely given me a lot to think about.

Cordoba or Yamaha for sure. The C5, C7 and C9 are all great guitars. I have a C9 on clearance if anyone is interested..

Good Introductory Classical Guitar?
Lynn, I own a number of classical guitars, in many price ranges, and while Yamaha and Cordoba are good recommendations, I found you get a lot more bang for the buck with an Antonio Hermosa classical guitar. The AH-10 is solid cedar/mahogany, and the AH-20 is solid cedar/rosewood, fancier with abalone rosette and body purfling, and both are under $200, on eBay. High quality guitars, high quality tuning machines, very affordable, and the sound is fabulous.

We carry the Hermosa line and I think the thinline electric classical is pretty cool. That being said - not in the same league as Cordoba and Yamaha - just saying. To each their own.
