Default San Francisco show 3/24/14

Hi everyone,

Not sure if it's ok to self-promote here, and apologies if not.

I'll be playing a set of solo acoustic pieces at the Tupelo in San Francisco next Monday 3/24/14. I'll be one of several players. It's a semi-regular showcase put together by guitarist and composer extraordinaire Lindsey Boullt. Some of the players are his students. Not sure what time my set will be, but the show usually starts around 7:30.

I'll be playing a Yamamoto fanned fret baritone, so you're welcome to come check that out even if you don't care about anything else

Roger, this is the exact correct place to promote, self or otherwise.

Good luck on your show.

Roger -

Wish I was in the area, as I suspect it could be an interesting show. Who else is in the showcase?

Would love to hear more about what you are or will be playing on that Baritone...

El Kabong: I play solo fingerstyle tunes, mostly originals with the occasional classical or Michael Hedges song thrown in. I don't know how to describe my style too well, but it tends to appeal to people who like Andy McKee and Michael Hedges. Doug Young here on AGF could tell you more as we've played together and he knows what I sound like.

I'm working on a web site that will have samples.

Thanks for the interest.

Roger - You bet, love stuff that's a little outside the mainstream and, based on Boullts role in the event (and you playing a Baritone), it sounded like stuff that would be right up my alley. Would enjoy any samples you put out there. cheers, scott

As it happens, I just got a few videos from Tony Yamamoto and uploaded them to YouTube, so he's an idea of what I play:

Hey Roger - Thanks for putting that up, really enjoyed the performance...also the "Locomotive" song on your channel. Don't know why, maybe just the sort of "plaintive" undertone, but that one put me a little bit in mind of Sergio Altamura's "Luna"...don't know if you've seen or heard it. (check it out here if you havent) He's become one of my favorite acoustic guys these days, along Jon Gomm.

Oh, love the guitar...I traded some messages a while back with Tony about his baritones. One of these days maybe.... I did get a chance to play one of the Goodall Jumbos which slayed me...Well out of my price range, but a fellow can hope.

Cheers, Scott

PS - Almost forgot, noticed you're also a fan of Jonas Hellborg

Tony's guitars are awesome. Can't go wrong with any of them.

Yes, Jonas Hellborg is in my top 10. I have almost everything he's ever done. Really unique musician. Ars Moriende is one of my favorite records ever.
