Jazz guitarist Mimi Fox has done 2 superb solo CDs. In the Joe Pass tradition, but lots of modern sounds and some surprising song choices (Woody Guthrie, for example).

Martin Taylor Solo is my first pick. Earl Klugh Solo Guitar.
Joe Pass Virtuoso 1 to 4. But you'd probably want to give up playing guitar after hearing Joe Pass. |

One of my fav's from the 60's is Howard Roberts. I have a couple of his albums from that period that have some great chord/melody tunes on them.

If you're listening to Howard Roberts, you should pick up an album or two by Tony Mottola, if you can find them.

Thanks for mentioning Lenny Breau, who had such a unique approach to playing the guitar. Unlike Joe Pass, and others who are fortunate, Breau couldn't shake the toxic demons out of his soul, but he could certainly make moving music.

If you can find the vinyl, "By Myself" by Cal Collins. It is bizarre that it has not been rereleased on CD by the Concord Jazz label.

Indeed - such a tasty player. Carlos Barbosa Lima is my favorite of all the samba style guitarists with classical chops. I've been a an admirer of his playing ever since I first heard his Jobim/Gershwin recording many years ago. Here's a nice clip of him playing Tico Tico. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkHqxLPkPpE |

Jeff Linsky has an early album with solo music, and the best solo guitar reading of "Autumn in New York" I've ever heard.
