Those are not tabs, but rather they are done in skeletal chord melody songbook style in standard notation.

Good resource. But yeah, don't call them "tabs". Tab is tablature, for beginner guitarists (and illiterate rock guitarists) and no self-respecting jazz musician uses tabs. Man

Charts. In jazz a tab is what you run at the bar.

Yep. And be careful to distinguish "charts" from "The Charts", which is where no jazz record will ever appear.

What's this "umpa" style of playing? It's jazz, not polka! Trust me, I play both

I wouldnt know how else to describe it ...he was first a bass player from Liverpool then when he stopped gigging he turned guitar player .His walking style with the bass notes is impressive .Its like he's playing along to himself filling in his chord work.

His term umpa its in time with the tuba like clockwork

I play all sorts of music including using a midi-accordion for polka music. I'll admit to oom-pah there.

I also do finger-style chord melody swing and jazz standards on guitar. It's a more ethereal approach, so I call it Ommmmm-pa
music. It get zen to your blood...

Try "Alternating thumb bass" or "Alternating thumb". I totally got it when you said it.

Well as a self respecting jazz musician, am I allowed to write down music and go so far as to use my own chordal or tab-style shorthand?
Must I use standard notation for that as well?
