Default AGF Showcase of Talent, September 2014: Songs from your senior year in high school

Okay, the September Showcase of Talent is here! This month we will concentrate on songs from your senior year in high school. Since your senior year usually includes two calendar years (begin in fall of one year and graduate the spring of the next), you can use either year. For instance, if you started your senior year in 1979 and graduated in spring of 1980, you can count both years. Anyone that attended your senior year more than once... well, you have more options!

These songs can be from any genre and do not have to be a hit. For the purposes of this Showcase, if the song was released your senior year or hit the top 100 for that year, it's fine. If there is a remake of a song from an earlier year that hit the top 100, that's fine too.

As with all of these SOTs, this is not a competition and is not meant to be a way to critique people's performances. You can, of course, comment on other people's work, but please keep it civil. The idea behind this SOT is simply to give people a chance to learn new music, show people what you can do, and to listen to what others can do. The AGF is chock full of talent, with each of us having our own abilities, positives, and negatives.

You can post a song here as a video or as a sound file.

For this month, we will draw for a $25 gift certificate among all entries. Again, this is not a competition and all skill levels are welcomed. Once you hear my post you''' know that this is true! The drawing will be made early in October, once the monthly topic has changed for the month.

If anyone would like to donate the certificate this month, please let me know! If not, I will donate it.

Have fun everyone!!!

If you need to know what was a top 100 song from your year, check this link:

Ok, this looks REALLY promising.

.... I hate to skirt the rules so early in the process ( I know we are supposed to withhold our comments ) ...

But I've checked out UKE-J's website and it seems to me that anyone who can post an (inspired) arrangement of such things as, " The Twin Peaks Song" or an electric UKE version of the old Associations song, "Never My Love" ought to be able to handle a little CHER.

Touché and then some, Good Sir. Well struck.

You indeed are right about my proclivity for Pop....Jackson 5, Dolly Parton, The Carpenters, Burt Bacharach, Julian Lennon, Roberta Flack are on my set list. Now with that said, it isn't going to be a Cher song for this month. Rather, a schmaltzy duet of epic proportions--Yentl meets Solitary Man (that latter being a song that I've also recorded, much to my shame....oh wait, I have no shame...never mind).

My choice has been made. Now I just need to practice and get something recorded.

Hot off the press:

Jars Of Clay - "Worlds Apart" (1995). Not my best effort, but the song is too long for multiple takes.

Default Class of 72: Great Year for Music!

I thought of trying Yes' 1972 "Roundabout" but then thought better of it, so here's two simpler tunes from '72.

Darcy Farrow (John Denver's "Rocky Mountain High" album)

Til Tomorrow (Don McLean's "American Pie" album)

P.S. How do you embed a Youtube video? I see how to get the embed link, but how is it correctly entered to display in these threads? [Got the answer. Thanks, Jeremy!]

Very nice! I'm certainly impressed. Good singing and good playing!

Great Jars of Clay rendition, too, by the way.
