Default Good cheap P-90 Electric

So I have an American Telecaster and a hollow body double him bucker guitar that I made myself.

Now I am thinking about a good cheap electric with P-90's.

Not looking to spend tons as I don't play a lot of electric. This would be for recording use only.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

2013 Gibson SG 50's Tribute - double P90's. A little looking and you can find them for a great deal.

It would help if you could better define your budget.

The G&L ASATs are very good.

Every now and then a used Hamer guitar (which usually used P-90s) will pop up at a local music store or pawn shop. They're not collectible, so they're relatively inexpensive, and the quality is top notch.

Got a rare '11 goldtop with exposed-wood PRS-style "binding" that's been my go-to since day one; I also own one of these:

- and this one's been on my short list for a while now:

I was just playing it last night. It just has a different sound of its own, no? I've also polished mine up a bit to give it more of a gloss. Nothing like a regular gloss finish but it glows a little more.

Default How about this for a budget

Neil, like another poster stated, we need to know your budget. My perspective tends to be different than others. In a sense, I am merely a headhunter. I buy cheap and am only concerned with the body and neck. Anything that bothers me is modified.

Take a look at the Epiphone Special 1 Model. They can be had used for $50-$60 and can be bought new for about $100. They provide a solid platform for upgrade and you can get as crazy as you want. First, here's a link to Musician's Friend:

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guita...al%201&index=3

Can't be too much of a dog with 97 reviews and 4.5 out of 5 stars. You mentioned that you built your own humbucker guitar and those are the skills you need when dealing with the less expensive guitars.

These guitars are also great for modding to death. So far I added the following mods:

1) Installed Lindy Fralin P90s 5% overwound. These would be slightly more aggressive than stock.

2) I decided to make this my regular beater guitar, so I installed Jescar EVO gold frets. I have never read anywhere that these frets show any wear.

3) Since this is a hardtail, I have no problem installing a brass nut. Important to buy the brass shims. They come in handy.

4) Installed some quick release strap locks.

With the initial purchase, you can go cheap and then the sky's the limit. P90s are one of my favorite pickups. After this, you may want to explore lipstick pickups. They are very different and I presently have 3 Danelectros. Great stuff!
