Checkout this awesome arrangement! I was not able to embed the youtube video. The player says "An error occurred. Please try again later"...

Luther's version was better.

Great playing but I wasn't wild about the arrangement. Lost its blues character to my ear. I'm a firm believer that not all blues need to be sad or gloomy. But this sounded more like a tune about a fun day at the fair than about being stuck in prison. Still, I sure wish I could play nearly that well.

I agree with Bob. I'm in a duo (acoustic guitar / electric bass) and we play this song a lot. This is always one of the most popular things we do. We don't perform it *nearly* as well as this guitarist but we try and focus on the misery of the guy in prison (I do the singing) and that seems to work. It is the combination of the "down" lyrics and lead guitar with the uptempo beat that makes the song go. I think you really need that here.

I don't see the point. The melody is not the strong point of this song.

Looks like the point was to have fun.

Could have improved that video 100% by killing his microphone.

All I could hear was his breathing...

Thanks for posting this! Not really a Johnny Cash guy, but so many nice blues variations here and looks like a great lesson. I'll be checking this out soon!

If I hadn't seen the video -- just audio -- I would have guessed the OP's version was Chet Atkins. Very nice....
