All-around live and simple recording dynamic mic - Shure Beta 57?
Hey, all.
I am about to order a mic for quiet gigs and simple recordings of acoustic guitar. Anything light-years better than a Beta 57 for the same price-ish? Thanks!

It's really pretty good for live use, a little hotter than the SM-57. Not great for recording but not terrible, it'll work.

You might consider an Audix i5, has more detail than the Shure.

Beta 57
A great mic for sound reinforcement - very well behaved in terms of feedback. I'd say it's one of, if not the, most versatile mics I own. I haven't used one as primarily a recording mic, but it's on my to do list. I don't think you'd regret owning a Beta 57...

Used the Beta 57A all summer, indoors and out as an adjunct to my magnetic soundhole pickup. I think it's very good. It's better and/or easier to use with stage monitors than the Shure SM57, Shure SM58 and the Blue enCORE 100i. However, I believe the EV N/D 767a is slightly richer/thicker.
Next season I'm going to try the Aspen Pittman DT-1 super-cardioid condenser.
