Default Capo's (Again)

Thinking of getting a nicer capo.

Anyone try one of these?

I read a lot of positive reports about this capo.
I will stay with my Paige though.
For the difference in cost, my Paige capos are all that I need.

Default Shubb F3

Haven't tried the D'Addario but recently purchased the Shubb F3. Its similar.

I've got a capo in every case & a couple others laying around. I use capos.

I really like the new Shubb. It keeps very even pressure across the board. Seems to be easier to get & keep tune.

Still, at $75 its a luxury. I've been very happy for a long time with std. Shubbs, a Victor I like a lot, & even a couple of Keysers for quick changes.

Of course, YMMV.

Take care,

Frank

I bought a Paige Clik. $21. Same design, works fine.

Try out as many as you can and then buy the one you like. All are a bit different. For my fancy capo that does more than any others I have tried I am currently using a Thalia. Not only are they incredibly well made and beautiful to look at and can be customized, they have inserts that can be switched to customize it to any fretboard radius exactly instead of being one size fits most as most of the other capos do. Here is a link to their website (I am in no way associated with them other than having bought one that I really like) and below the link is an image of the one I bought to go on my custom Larrivee C-10 to match the paua abalone inlays on my fretboard.

Default Clik & thalia

I have a Clik for my mandolin, & while I don't use it much, it is a good working capo & I like it. I've used Shubbs for more than 30 years, though, so when I decided to try something new, I went with the F3. The Clik is well-built but the Shubb is even better. There is definitely a difference between the two. Worth the $? Maybe - Maybe Not. Beauty (quality?) is always in the eye of the beholder.

The thalia looks nice but the design seems overly complex to me. I had a G7th when they first came out & even though it worked OK, for some reason I never really like using it. Until I bought the F3, it was the most expensive capo that I owned. One day it kinda flew apart so I kinda threw it out. To me, form follows function. The thalia is just too flashy for my taste. Again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Just my .02,

Frank

All you need: https://www.g7th.com/celtic-capos?gc...hoCyugQAvD_BwE They just plain old work well with no extra parts to loose or unnecessary bling. For the quality and functionality, they are a bargain.

I buy and try out virtually every new capo design that comes out on the market, but always end up going back to my Shubb Deluxe capos.

This is what I find. I guess I will always be looking for the next new thing.

Default Shubbs

Wade Hampton,

My standard Shubbs have worked so well I've never felt the need to go "Deluxe." I think I need one. :-)

Take care,

Frank

PS - We met a long time ago through RMMGA. I was even privileged to take advantage of your generous hospitality in Chugiak one summer night. Moose chili, fresh salmon & good music if I recall. Hope all is well with you & yours!

When $100 capo's are designed exactly like my Paige, I'm comfortable with the assumption I just saved $85.00 and have a capo that performs like a capo should.

I used the standard Shubb for a long time and liked it. Tried a Paige and prefer it. Slim, unobtrusive profile, and easy to apply even pressure across the strings. A good deal for the price. The D'addario you're looking at is the same basic design, but more expensive.

I'm in love with my G7th Heritage.

The ART technology allows it to work on any flat or radius fretboard. I can easily move from my Froggy Bottom guitar to my classical's with it.

The Paige Clik is a nice capo, but doesn't work on flat fretboards and Paige doesn't offer a "classical" Clik version.

Same for the Shubb Fine tune. Very nice capo but doesn't work on Flat Fretboards.

Ditto for the Elliot's

The Thalia will work on various fretboards, but you have to swap out inserts to achieve what the G7th Heritage does automatically. Plus the Thalia is too big and bulky for my personal tastes.

I'm a Paige fan as well.

I don't see how this $70 capo is that much better than a $20 Paige (but I don't play with a capo a lot. It looks like they work the exact same way.).
