Default New Fan of Grateful Dead (Music)

I was never a fan; just didn't "get" them. To me, they sounded like a cover band in rehearsal. Until...

recently, while watching John Mayer videos, I ran across the recent Dead and Company performances. Here's one:

JM joins 3 TGD survivors and other top musicians; very nice.

And interestingly enough the encore of Dylan's "Knocking On Heavens Door" is outstanding.
The back story of the guitar and then amp the that Paul Reed Smith" made for John is pretty interesting to us PSR guitar owners

For original Dead music, it was one of those 'you had to be there' things - right place, right people, right times.

Some truth to that to be sure. None then less the Dead and Company tour was pretty good ,.

I was fortunate enough to be in the right place right time Portland Oregon circa late 60's
The Dead did two or three shows that I saw (it was the 60's) at Springer's Ballroom which was actually an old grange hall. Interestingly enough at one or two of shows (again the 60's) Quicksilver Messenger Service was the opening act and honestly I liked them better than the Dead

Here is a quick blurb and old poster from that time and place
