Default Martin Titanium Strings Update

Well it's been over three months now and a lot of playing including many gigs and the Titaniums Martin sent me to "Beta Test" are still going strong.
As a matter of fact, they sound even better. They have certainly tamed the brightness of my Pono Dread and it sounds wonderful.
They are truly easy to play, low tension and all that. They also stay in tune under all the various conditions they have been under.
I'm going to leave them on as I promised Martin for six months and do a final review.

Do you play in any altered or open tunings? I ask because I have heard that titanium strings are not recommended for folks that re-tune a lot. Have you found that to be the case?

Best,
Jayne

Jayne, that sounds more like someone trying to undermine a new product of a competitor than anything else. I'm not saying you, just the source of the initial rumor.

I do not play much in altered tunings, so I can't be of any help.
I would probably look upon that comment with skepticism.
I can't disagree with the fact that titanium has different properties than steel, but Martin has a lot on the line with these strings. I can't conceive of a lack of testing in all circumstances.

It wasn't a rumor, it was the recommendation of an earlier titanium string manufacturer - Rohrbach. So, their caveat was that re-tuning would fatigue the strings and cause breakage. Something about how they are manufactured. I will probably just email Martin and pose the question to them.

Thanks.

Jayne

Let's not forget that these strings are only titanium cored with a nickel wrap. Ernie Ball also produce titanium plated strings. Not sure I like the sound of 'taming brightness'. I like bright.

I'm about 2 months in with my set of Titaniums.
I don't alter tunings but I can say they have an uncanny knack of staying in tune better than any other string I've used.
I put them on my most 'string-fussy' guitar and they are loud and clear - I really like them.

I can't say when they will be available but I believe they may be priced at $39.99 a set.

Supposedly August.

I'm afraid I might be "hooked." Then again, if they go six months of constant playing, they are worth it. Brucebubs is absolutely correct about them staying in tune, they do and I have had them outside in the heat as well as in air-conditioning. They feel nice and play really easy. In that regard, the best I have tried.

40$ a set ? you can buy quite a few other sets for that.

open minded about them, if they really are that good and stay good a long time then 40$ might not be so bad. changing strings often is such a chore.

Looking forward to see how the beta tests turns out. keep us posted

also in your opinion are there any well known strings already out there that many of us might have tried that compare.

just to get a ball park idea of what to expect

I don't play in altered tunings much, but nonetheless, I don't get crazy life out of any strings I've tried.

D'darrio = 2-3 weeks
Elixr NW = 5-6 weeks
Pearse = 3-4 weeks

etc etc

I'd pay $40 for a set of strings that honestly went 6 months. I especially like the tone of a "played-in" string...up until the time they sound muddy and dead.

$40 for 4-5 months of being in the sweet spot all the time? Sounds ok to me.

One thing caught me slightly 'off-guard'.
These are 'round-core wound' and shouldn't be cut until they are installed.
OK on a paddle head but I was originally planning to try them on a slot-head.

Would I buy them at $39.99 a set?
Well that's US dollars, I'm in Australia so that's gonna sting by the time they make it down here.... but probably, yes.
