Default Elixir question

Does anyone know if the plain strings in an Elixir set are coated?

I'm not talking about tinning or bronzing, I mean a coating similar to the wound strings?

Thought I'd heard something about this in the past but couldn't find it in a search...

Inquiring minds!

I think the plain strings are just plated. The older style package of Nanowebs described them as 'Nanoweb Ultrathin coating with Anti-Rust plain steels'.

And on the backside is a diagram that reads
∙ Coating prevents....yadda yadda ....from collecting in the windings of the strings
∙ Anti-rust plating on plain steel strings....

The plain strings are galvanized, not coated as the wound strings are-although it is a coating process. They won't rust.

Are you saying, or is Elixir saying, that galvanizing is different than what Martin, D'Addario, etc. all do to their strings?

Just trying to make sure I understand clearly...

Yes...although I've never asked nor been informed as to how it's different.

The plain-steel strings do not, as others have confirmed, have any kind of PTFE coating.
