Default using a sound system

I just got an acoustic electric Yamaha. It has a preamp and pickup. I plugged it into my sound system and it didn't work. Any help is appreciated.

The battery is fine. We tested it on an amp in the store. And it has an on board tuner which works fine.

Are you using the same cable you used in the store? And what kind of sound system do you have, and what input did you plug into?

Not a big cable. I have an old 1973 Niko receiver. There is an audio wire I plug into my laptop for surround sound with s 3.5 mm jack. I got an adapter and plugged that into the guitar.

Sounds like the plug you're using at home is a stereo cable with a stereo adapter. An instrument cable for what you have is a 1/4" mono cable. There isn't anything wrong with your guitar or your amp, your connection just isn't letting them communicate. Remember- just because the plug fits in the hole doesn't mean it's the right one. Good luck!

A TRS 1/4" to TRS 3.5 mm adapter is going to take the ring from the guitar and hook it up to the right input of the receiver. The guitar is likely mono and that ring is probably intended to be grounded to power up the guitar. Here is another option (there are quite a few options):

You can then plug a standard 3.5 mm TRS to dual RCA cable into this adapter.
