The lead in our country band at the time used one. Sounded every bit the Strat or Tele as he needed it to sound. A fairly heavy guitar, as I recall.

I won't rub it in, Jeffrey.

I think you should look st G&L and Reverend. The Fallout has it's own look and tone but the middle position does a pretty good Strat impersonation, as does the Bluesboy. My Bluesboy can sound very close to a LP, a Strat and a Tele in each different position. Very versatile.

You could always try building your own guitar and customising the body shape of a different classic to have Strat pickups.
Check out Pitbull Guitars based in Western Australia, who have over 120 standard kits available, and you can modify just about any model from the factory.
I recently completed a Les Paul copy, and it sounds fantastic in the right hands. I've just uploaded a couple of videos to my thread - http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/f...d.php?t=429958

Here's the site you can visit - http://www.pitbullguitars.com/

You can finish the body in whatever colour/style you like, and it will be a truly personalised guitar.

Epiphone released the buleshawk a couple years ago. It has P90 pickups in both neck and bridge positions. There is a 6 position switch that changes the tone qualities and the P90s have a dummy coil for noise cancelling when using only one of the pickups. It is supposed to offer a ton of tonal options, and you might find some settings that would approach stratesque tone. It also has a 25.5 inch scale length. Not too pricey and pretty cool looking..... http://www.epiphone.com/Products/Ele...wk-Deluxe.aspx

Guild made a Bluesbird back in the 80s that had three single coils and a trem, in a compact, Paul-ish shape. You could also look at the Gibson S-1, based on the Marauder, from the 1970s.
