Just this morning I opened the case for my 48 year old Martin 00-28C and found the D-string had let go at the bridge. This was a set of Oasis Carbons. It's the second set of these that let go in the exact same place. I had a spare set in the "string stash" so I put them on because I like the sound but may replace them (when they let go if they do) with D'Addario light tension because of the age and light construction of this guitar.

Well, that is interesting. I have never, in over 40 years, had a steel string guitar string break; that I would suspect to be a burr or something similar on the saddle.

Anyway, it's Augustine strings for me. There's no rhyme or reason why, but the D string always breaks at the saddle. Sometimes it goes months, sometimes days. I switched to Pro Artes, and haven't had one break. |

I've had this happen twice with a very cheap Yamaha guitar. So, when I place my nylon-stringed Taylor guitar in the case I always tune down the bass strings just so this doesn't happen.
