Default Martin D-35 fretboard materials.

I know Martin currently lists the D-35 as having an Ebony fretboard but was wondering if they had rosewood boards on certain years of production?

I am not aware of any. That is usually a sign of a fake.

My Blue Book shows all variations of the D-35 with an ebony fingerboard, no mention of Rosewood.

Thanks for the info. I just bought a 2004 Martin D-35 from a friend and the board looked kind of like rosewood. Turns out it was just dry. after applying a thin coat of Lemon oil...... it darkened right up. Its definitely ebony.

If the fretboard was that dry than you better have the whole guitar looked at, there could be some other issues..

The D-35 Specification calls for ebony. Some of the early ones had Gaboon ebony and the later ones now are Macassar ebony that has been finished off with dye. It's all good.

This is correct.
As hard woods are becoming harder to find, lower grades are being used where they were not used before.
Most of this is only cosmetic though.

You will see Ebony with coloration and grain on many guitars now.

Macasser is not a lower grade ebony...if anything, it addresses the chief complaint about Gabon and Madagascar ebonies - the high internal damping. I much prefer it to Madagascar for tonal reasons and avoidance of any contribution to the continued uncontrolled deforestation of that blighted island.
