Default Friday Has Become My Favorite Day

Friday is now my favorite day of the week. I will go forth shortly for my weekly visit to Kroger for my groceries. I will have lunch first at one of the burger drive ins.

In addition to food at Kroger, I will also look to expand my social circle. A single male grocery shopping appears to be a big, red flag for single females doing the same. Last week, I got chatted up by an ex-airline stewardess over the selection of chicken salad. Whoda thunk Kroger would be the center of a singles scene? FYI, the Deli section is where all the action is. Coffee aisle is your fallback position.

Isn't much, but being retired this is the most action I see all week.

You're a better man than me - I'm retired and I never know what day it is.

Perhaps only in your over-active imagination

I don't think so. True, walking the dog still holds the top slot but Kroger is gaining ground.

I'll fight traffic for the 10th time this week on my way back to town (thus making a 40-minute commute almost an hour). Go to the gym. Go pick up the kids from school while my wife is at the gym. Spend the better part of the afternoon breaking up fights between the boys and trying to find food for the kids that doesn't exist. I'll then get everyone in the car, take them to my parents, and pray they want to stay over.

I'll probably then go home, drink a beer, and if the kids aren't there, inappropriately joke with my wife, then go watch a half an episode of Law and Order while lying in bed before going to sleep.

This is my life just about every Friday.

Friday was always my favorite day of the week while I was working. Now that I'm retired, it's another day that I can do whatever I wish. As for social scenes, the warm water pool at my fitness club has become my focus of social interaction. Go figure....

I like the pool idea. Only downside is you can't tell if they need walkers or not. At Kroger, they have to be ambulatory enough to push a cart or they're riding in an electric shopping weasel.

Yes! Somehow, my wife seems to have hung onto the TGIF sentiment and always knows when Friday is. For me, it is just another day except when I have a short-term contract. My area is great for retired engineers, a win-win for both companies who just have some overflow work and the retired engineers who want to work occasionally. I am not complaining because I think that retirement is a good thing.

In the over-55 community where I live there are 18,000 residents and 2,500 of them are men. The single men get their exercise by running away from unwanted attention.

Besides that, don't you guys have Pickleball?

This thread is cracking me up!

I wake up Monday mornings wishing it was Friday. Probably not healthy.

Around here it's Mondays. The grocery store I stop at on Monday morning is a social event. The ads are out and the weekend is over and I find myself running in to people and visiting a little. And then another and then seeing the friend I first ran into standing in the way talking to another person. Between everybody socializing, wheel chairs and oxygen combined with people writing checks and doing their accounting at the check out lane you better not be in a hurry. And I though Saturday was bad.

Grocery stores have long been a singles scene.

First, it's news I recall from a long time ago. As IT director for a company that owns grocery stores I see it when I'm in stores. I'm sure it is only a week old or so but one of Wall St. Journal or NY Times just had an article on the topic.

Now I wonder if you'd be surprised or not surprised by all the things the loss prevention cameras have caught over the years.

I'm retired, as well. I've got the day of the week figured out, pretty well. What was difficult at first was accepting that I can do whatever I want whenever I want. We have completely stopped watching TV. Probably one of the best quality of life thing a person can do.

The other quality of life thing I have done is I don't drink anymore. That really is improving my general health and state of mind.

Years ago when I was driving cab, I picked up a fair for a doctors appointment and what I found strange was that this elderly woman just loved to go to the doctors because it was pretty much her only social outlet.
