Personally I'm not a fan of electronics (batteries/preamps) in guitars only because of seeing and experiencing failures while onstage.

Otherwise, I have no political or religious objections to pickups in general. Manufacturers are putting them in due to customer demand.

Oh, and an acoustic guitar is transformed into an electric guitar by having a pickup and preamp? Go tell Tommy Emmanuel et al that they are not acoustic guitarists.

I don't particularly like the looks of the barn door panel on the side of my guitars, it is the practicality that is attractive to me. I'm very much a plug and play person. The easier it is to operate the better it is for me. I don't like fiddling around trying to make something work.

I'd mic at home. Would not buy a looper without an XLR input, because I have some great mics and some great guitars. So for me plugging in is a downgrade in tone, YMMV.

Looping is much more productive if the instrument is totally isolated, which isn't going to happen with a mic. It doesn't matter how great the mic is, if there's bleed then it makes looping problematic. Great guitars can still be great guitars with a high quality transducer.

I can't even imagine how bad having "guitar bleed" in the bass side of the looper would be.

Sure, you can use cans, but what fun is that?

I seem to think built in electronics are mostly a matter of convenience, especially to those who who perform.

I have a barn door in my 600$ Takamine all laminate EF341C, and a factory installed Fishman in my $3k Martin GPC-35E. 99% of the patrons at the local boat club wouldn't know/hear the difference playing either through a Mackie 808S.

I also have a Martin M-36 with a K&K mini installed, which owns the tone the others are judged by. The K&K mini in my M-36 hasn't compromised it's true acoustic sound - at least to my ear.

I love the Fishman Aura barndoor electronics on my D-16. The guitar sounds great through a board, an amp or unplugged.

I have a K&K in my non-cutaway Taylor 412. It is "not there" unless I plug in. At my acoustic duo gigs I would not be without it.
