If you do bugyeyed's method then you may want to look into 3M double stick tape sheets. You can get it from Stew Mac and it's used to adhere pick guards. It's super strong stuff and I have no doubt it would work as long as the whole area is dead flat (since the stone will not bend). Problem is that over time distortion around the sound hole is typical, usually after many many years but still, the stone will not conform to the distortion of the top. I'd make a strong A-Frame brace design.
